What is Training Data?
The examples an AI model learns from, such as text, images or records. The quality, variety and age of the training data shape what the model knows and where it makes mistakes.
Every AI model is shaped by its training data. A language model trained mostly on English web pages will usually be better in English than in Hindi. A model trained on older data will not know recent changes.
What training data affects:
- Knowledge: what topics the model handles well, and its knowledge cut-off
- Language and style: which languages and tones it writes naturally
- Bias: unfair patterns in the data can appear in the answers (see AI Bias)
Your data and training: some AI tools may use your conversations to improve future models, depending on the tool and your settings. Check the privacy or data settings of the tools you use, and follow your company's policy for work data.
