ChatGPT
General-purpose AI assistant by OpenAI for writing, explaining, summarising, analysing files and everyday office work.
What it is
ChatGPT is an AI chat assistant made by OpenAI. You type (or speak) a request in plain language, in English, Hindi or Hinglish, and it writes a reply. It is the most widely used AI assistant, so there are many tutorials and examples available online.
Best for
- Drafting and rewriting emails, letters, posts and reports
- Explaining concepts, Excel formulas or documents in simple words
- Summarising long text and turning notes into tables or checklists
- Brainstorming ideas, names, outlines and questions
- Working with files you upload, such as PDFs, spreadsheets and images (availability depends on your plan)
How to start
- Go to the official website or install the official app from the Play Store or App Store.
- Create an account, then open Settings and review the data and privacy options.
- Start a new chat for each new task, and describe your role, the task, the context and the format you want.
Example prompts
I am an accounts executive. Write a polite payment reminder for an invoice
that is 15 days overdue. Under 100 words, with a subject line.

Pricing
There is a free plan with usage limits. Paid plans give more usage, access to more capable models and extra features. Plans and prices change often, so check the official website before paying.
Watch out for
- It can be confidently wrong. Check numbers, rules, dates and sources yourself.
- Do not paste passwords, ID numbers, bank details or confidential company data.
- If your company provides an approved AI tool, use that for work.
Our tip
Save the prompts that work well for you in a note, with blanks for the parts that change. Our free course AI for Everyone shows you how, step by step.
