Lesson 7 of 7 · AI for Marketing and Small Business

Measuring What Works and Improving Every Month

Track a few simple numbers, find out which posts, messages and offers bring real customers, and use AI to review the month and plan the next one.

Marketing without measuring is guessing. You do not need complex dashboards: a few numbers in a simple sheet, reviewed once a month with AI help, will show you what to do more of and what to stop.

Track only what matters

Pick a handful of numbers you can collect in 15 minutes a month:

Area Number to track Where to find it
Social media Reach, saves/shares, profile visits, messages from posts Instagram and Facebook insights, Meta Business Suite
WhatsApp New chats, orders from chats, broadcast replies Your chat labels (lesson 4)
Google Calls, direction requests, website clicks Google Business Profile performance
Website Visitors, top pages, enquiries Google Analytics, Search Console
Sales Orders and revenue, and where each customer came from Your records

The most valuable habit: ask every new customer how they found you and note it. "Instagram reel", "Google Maps", "friend told me". This one column tells you more than any dashboard.

Know where clicks come from

If you share website links in posts, WhatsApp or email, you can tag them so Google Analytics shows the source. Ask the AI:

Explain UTM tags in simple words, and create tagged versions of this link
for an Instagram bio, a WhatsApp broadcast and our email newsletter:
[your link]

The monthly review with AI

Once a month, put your numbers in a sheet and paste a summary into the chat (no customer names or numbers):

Here are my marketing numbers for [MONTH] compared with last month:
[paste table]
Here are my top 5 and bottom 5 posts by reach and messages, with their
topic and format: [paste]
Where new customers came from: [paste counts by source].

1. What worked best, and why might that be?
2. What should I stop or change?
3. Suggest 3 specific experiments for next month, each with what to
measure to know if it worked.
Keep it short and practical for a small business owner with limited time.

Treat the AI's "why" as a guess to test, not a conclusion. Small numbers can vary a lot by chance, so look for patterns over two or three months before making big changes.

Run small experiments

Change one thing at a time so you know what made the difference:

  • Reels vs photo posts for the same product
  • Posting time: morning vs evening
  • Offer wording: "₹100 off" vs "free delivery"
  • Broadcast message with a photo vs text only

Write each experiment down: what you changed, the dates, and the result. After a few months, this becomes your own playbook.

Close the loop

Use what you learn to update your work from earlier lessons:

  • Brief (lesson 1): add the customer words and reasons that keep appearing.
  • Content pillars (lesson 2): do more of the pillars that bring messages and orders.
  • Product descriptions (lesson 3): answer the questions customers keep asking.
  • Quick replies (lesson 4): add replies for new common questions.

Final practice task

Create a simple monthly tracking sheet with the numbers above and a "How did you find us?" column for new customers. At the end of this month, run the AI review prompt and choose three experiments for next month.

Then mark this lesson complete. You have finished the course!

Where to go next

Key takeaways

  • Track a few numbers monthly, and always ask new customers how they found you.
  • Use tagged links to see which channel brings website visitors.
  • Review each month with AI, but treat its explanations as ideas to test.
  • Run one small experiment at a time and feed the lessons back into your marketing.
